The changing face of Melanie Griffith - has she taken surgery too far?

Actress Melanie Griffith shocked onlookers when she stepped out on the red carpet in Hollywood over the weekend, sparking whispers cosmetic surgery has left her almost unrecognisable.

She accompanied Antonio Banderas, her husband of over a decade, to the premiere of his latest movie Shrek the Third, and unveiled what looked like a changed face when she removed her sunglasses.

At the event, which was also attended by Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz, Griffith kept by her husband's side.

Her skin appeared unusually taut around her eyes and her lips, slathered in red lipstick, looked particularly plump.

The star turns 50 later this year, but is clearly struggling to age gracefully.

Of late, her flagging professional life has been overshadowed by rumours of regular facial transformations.

Still, the actress is working to revive her career, which reached great heights with 1988's Working Girl.

She recently filmed television program Viva Laughlin, which is based BBC murder-mystery musical series, Blackpool, alongside Hugh Jackman.
