Kate and Wills' make-or-break paradise trip

Prince William has whisked Kate Middleton off on a make-or-break holiday in the Indian Ocean.

The couple, who recently rekindled their relationship, are spending a week on an isolated island, the Daily Mail can exclusively reveal.

They are in a £500-a-night suite in what is considered to be one of the most opulent, yet discreet, resorts in the region.

Going swimmingly: The couple on holiday last year

The Mail has chosen not to name the venue, to protect their privacy.

Their room, which has a large fourposter bed, is set in lush tropical vegetation and overlooks a lagoon.

The pair, both 25, have the option of dining in the resort's ocean-view restaurant or enjoying an intimate lobster meal in one of the thatched "kiosks" amid a forest of coconut trees.

Friends say the holiday is a long-awaited chance for the couple to be alone and talk about their future.

Miss Middleton was hotly tipped as the prince's future bride before their four-year relationship ended in the spring.

At the time, the couple said they had "grown apart". Prince William was believed to be the instigator, however, telling friends that he wasn't sure if he loved her enough to marry.

Last month it emerged that the couple had been on a series of tentative dates, but were trying desperately to keep it out of the headlines.

Miss Middleton was spotted driving into Clarence House late one evening, however, and agreed to join William in the Royal Box at Wembley for his mother's memorial concert last month.

Tension: Kate's decision to join a dragon boat team is reported to have caused problems

Things have not run smoothly, though.

Friends say the couple recently had a "major" row after Miss Middleton joined then pulled out of a dragon boat race across the Channel.

The prince is said to be "livid" that sources close to her blamed the withdrawal on pressure from Clarence House. "William was incandescent that the blame was being put on him and his advisors for her decision to pull out," a friend said.

"He was himself on a dragon boat team while at Eton and thought it was a brilliant idea.

"But he did feel that Kate was giving out the wrong message, posing for photographs with her team one minute and them complaining about attention from the paparazzi the next."

The fact that they are holidaying together suggests, however, that he is keen to put the row behind them and make a go of the relationship.

"To be honest, I don't think William is convinced even now that Kate is the girl for him but it seems as if he at least wants to try," the friend said.

It has also emerged that Prince Harry's girlfriend Chelsy Davy is recovering from an emergency appendectomy.

The 21-year-old was driven to hospital in Cape Town by her mother on Thursday morning after complaining of severe abdominal pains the night before.
