She's back! Britney Spears takes to the stage - for 14 minutes

Britney Spears has finally set her comeback in motion.

The pop singer hit the stage at San Diego's House of Blues for her first performance in almost three years.

Wearing a black wig, pink bikini top and white miniskirt, the star kicked off the 14 minute show with the crowd pleasing hit, Baby One More Time.

Spears reportedly lip-synced the set.

While her entourage caused havoc in the streets earlier in the day, the singer didn't begin her show until after 10pm.

At the end of the whirlwind gig, she told the crowd: "Thanks everyone for coming."

Spears had promised a return to her former glory back in January on a message on her website.

"I look forward to coming back this year bigger and better than ever," she wrote.

A source told American magazine Us Weekly: "Britney's shows at the House of Blues are just a warm-up. They are just to get her feet wet."

During her professional hiatus, there were no shortage of headlines about her private life.

Spears was treated at Promises rehab clinic in LA in earlier this year, after shaving her head and attacking a paparazzi vehicle with an umbrella.

The star recently settled her high profile divorce from Kevin Federline - the pair have two children, Jayden James, 8 months and Sean Preston, 1.

Spears, who was last seen on stage during her 2004 Onyx Hotel Tour, has more performances scheduled for later in the week including stops in LA and Las Vegas.

She has also been back in the recording studio working on new material.

Noted the source: "Britney has much bigger things in the works. It's just a small set to get her out there again."
